Who am I?
At my time of life, I often wonder this myself! But to give you an idea of me and my approach to health and wellbeing, I will share my thoughts briefly with you here.
I have been working with the body in various forms for about 20 years, initially my passion being horses, so it all began with a qualification in Equine Sports Massage. However, this very physical and direct approach was fairly quickly left behind when I began to discover the benefits of working with a lighter, listening touch and how this had a much more beneficial effect for the horses.
Over the years my passion has become working more with humans and I have been taken down a similar path, allowing my intuition and experience to guide my treatments. I am trained in many aspects of bodywork and bring the skills that I have learnt along the way to my treatments, but more often than not, I will be drawn to work with the fascial system, using generally a more gentle approach, inviting the body to shift in to a more balanced state, rather than forcing. Often people feel that they need to feel the pain to feel the gain, but this very much goes against what I see with the many bodies I have worked with (including the horses who give very honest feedback with no preconceptions!).
Creating and holding a safe space, inviting change within the body (and mind!) is my aim in my treatments. Therapeutic touch in itself goes a long way to help the healing process, but the more we understand also about the fascial matrix, the more we can also start to explain some of the ways in which this can affect a physical change, as well as the emotional, and spiritual - because they are completely intertwined.
One of my main passions is helping people who suffer with conditions such as jaw pain, chronic headaches, tinnitus, migraine, sinus issues, anything to do with the head and jaw really! I work very gently to bring balance to the bones and the soft tissue of the cranium, as well as helping to relieve tension and clicking/popping of the jaw that can be very debilitating for people, including intra-oral work where appropriate to access the tissue on a deeper level.
In my other role, I am also the Director and Head Tutor of The School of Bodywork where I share my passion and knowledge in both massage therapies and fascial work with up and coming therapists, as well as established therapists who are expanding their skill sets. I adore this side of my work and love to share what I have learnt, and am still learning with my students.
I am also a regular judge at the UK National Massage Championships, having been invited back for the last 4 years. Yes, there is actually a massage competition! It is a wonderful experience and shows real camaraderie between all the participants and the judges, and encourages innovation and skill sharing, so is a very special part of my annual calendar which I enjoy immensely.
